Bio

Rosemarie Smith was born in San Francisco and moved with her family to the picturesque island of Malta at a very young age. She quickly learned the Maltese language and attended her first years of school on the ancient island.  The artist returned to San Francisco and after finishing her studies, she joined the San Francisco Police Department in 1995.  In 2009, while still engaged in her police profession, Rosemarie was awarded a Presidential Scholarship at the prestigious San Francisco Academy of Art University, where she excelled in portraiture and figurative studies earning her Bachelor of Fine Art degree in December of 2018 and was selected as the 2019 graduating class Valedictorian.  Her work was selected for a number of exhibitions at the Academy of Art University and also exhibits her work at the Live Worms Gallery in San Francisco.  The artist currently lives in Placerville and continues to work in San Francisco.

As a mother, Rosemarie shares her appreciation of art with her two daughters who inspired her passion for art. Her family and friends all support her in her quest for defining beauty and many appear in her paintings in various states of poses that depict elegance, poise, and charm.  Her current series Cherished Moments is noted for her ability to capture her loved ones’ movements, expressions and personalities during special times of their lives.

The artist looks at art from a standpoint of beauty and well-being stating,  “Art has filled my life with images and dreams and interpret life and its many reasons to find clarity and meaning.  Working as a public servant for the past twenty-three years, I wish to include my art as an element of healing as I believe that art and its creativity is the most tangible within all of human qualities.  Within the realm of my friends and family, my art of them and for them will continue to play an essential part in the stability of family life, which includes an atmosphere of creativity and eternal love.”  Rosemarie’s technique of delicate rendering of human face and form harmonized by warm flesh surrounded by vivacious colors depict the spirit and beauty in her subjects.  Her desires to evoke and stir up deep emotions of others are reflected by her figurative women who possess both energy and grace and children that elicit warmth and love.  Rosemarie is truly passionate and conscious of life and seeks to magnify the value of family and relationships.
